One of the enormous events in the history of Indonesian modern art was the return of several Raden Saleh’s paintings from the Netherlands such as "Hunting Bulls", "Fighting with Lions", and "The Capture of Diponegoro". In the same period, the "Sinking Ship" which can now be visited at the Permanent Exhibition of the Indonesian National Gallery Collection, was also acquired from a private collector in the Netherlands through a purchase by the Directorate General of Culture.
How was the actual process behind the return of these important works? How did this return affect the historiography of Indonesian modern art? This was discussed by Pustanto (Head of the National Gallery of Indonesia), Sri Hadhy (Artist), and Aminudin TH Siregar (Lecturer at ITB Fine Arts, Doctoral Candidate in Art History at Leiden University, the Netherlands), guided by moderator Bayu Genia Krishbie (Curator of the National Gallery of Indonesia).
