Welcome, I am David Ricks. I am a personal injury trial lawyer in Rancho Cucamonga and the principal of the Inland Empire Law Group. I want to talk a little about the California dog bite laws. These laws are designed and intended to help injury victims from dog bites. They are called strict liability laws. Specifically the rules says this, if you own a dog, or have responsibility for a dog and that dog bites someone, you are responsible for the injuries caused to that dog. Now, there are some exceptions to that rule, and there are some variations for that but that is generally the law in California. If you own a dog, you have a responsibility to make sure that dog does not bite someone. If it does, you are responsible. If you have been a victim of a dog bite, the first thing that you are going to want to do is identify who is responsible for the care or for the maintenance of that dog. If you do not know where that dog came from, or if you do not know who owns that dog, or maybe that dog is a stray. Regardless of your injuries you may not be able to recover for those losses caused by or suffered by that dog bite. If you have been hurt by a dog, identify whose dog it is and then make sure that you seek legal counsel to get the appropriate recovery for your losses.
