Video transcript: Hi, I'm Dr. Craig Jonov, board certified cosmetic surgeon. I practice at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery in Lynnwood Washington just north of Seattle. Today, I'm here to talk about Rhinoplasty. The recovery time from a Rhinoplasty depends upon how in depth the Rhinoplasty is. A standard Rhinoplasty involves the components of the bone, the soft tissue, and the cartilage and is usually going to take about a week or so in which a splint is going to be placed on top of the nose. Once the splint is removed they're able to be going to work and may have just a little bit of swelling and such that they may have to deal with.
I usually tell them that from a functional standpoint of being able to be around at least in the house to do work, 3-5 days. If they're not uncomfortable being out and about then they can go to work within that period of time as long as they are wearing their splint. Usually after that time the splint is removed, and any type of sutures are removed so no one will really know that they've actually had a procedure done. So, that's about the time frame that I allow.
Now the final changes that are going to occur, of the nose, aren't complete at that time. That's going to take a longer period of time which may lead to the final 4-6 months before their final result is actually identified. The majority of the swelling and changes occur, about 80%, within the first month or so. It's that last 10-20% that happen over that extended period of time to give the final outcome.
