The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the important role technology can and should play in enabling resilience at the higher-education level. With universities closed to physical attendance, universities had no choice but to go online – breaking down the barriers of brick-and-mortar learning. Universities in Kenya have increasingly embraced e-Learning with a view to bridging the access gap while at the same time improving learning flexibility.
The Mastercard Foundation launched an e-Learning Initiative in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, to strengthen the capacity of 10 higher education institutions to deliver online learning. Implemented in partnership with USIU-Africa and Arizona State University, the initiative helps universities to develop and establish strong online programs that will expand higher learning beyond their current reach.
As we mark the International Day of the Youth we ask, how important is eLearning in Higher Education (Universities) and what has been achieved so far?
