Peru's northern and central coasts were hit by unusually high waves on Friday and Saturday (December 27 and 28).
Authorities closed 80 ports and several beaches, but no human losses were reported.
The tide intensity, which began to increase on December 25, is now at a 'strong intensity', according to Captain Enrique Varea, the Peruvian Navy's Chief of Hydrography and Navigation.
According to a report by the Peruvian Navy released on Friday, the swells in the coastal area are expected to last until Wednesday (January 1), although it is likely that abnormal swells will persist after that date.
