Hello and welcome to the channel! In this video we'll be taking a look back and Sonic The Hedgehog’s final 16-bit outing: Sonic 3D Blast! (Also known as Sonic 3D Flickies’ Island in some regions.) It was released on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive in November 1996 in the USA and Europe and was developed by British-based Traveller’s Tales, with assistance from Sonic Team in Japan.
The visuals and audio in this game certainly have a very Sonicy look and sound, but the game play is like nothing seen before from Sonic on the 16-bit system. Instead of a 2D platformer, this game flips the action to an isometric angle, allowing the player to control Sonic in a 3D space.
It’s another odd, arguably ’spin off’ (but sort of mainline too!) Sonic title, so join me as we dive into Sonic 3D Blast/Sonic 3D: Flickies’ Island, on both the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, as well as the hastily produced 32-bit Sega Saturn port!
If you enjoy the video leave a like and share your thoughts on the video and Sonic 3D in the comments below. And if you're new here, be sure to subscribe for high quality, evergreen Sonic and SEGA videos!
Cheers!
