Rabindra Sarobar (formerly known as Dhakuria Lake) is an artificial lake in South Kolkata - West Bengal. The name also refers to the area surrounding the lake. It is flanked by Southern Avenue to the North, Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Road to the West, Dhakuria to the East and the Kolkata Suburban Railway tracks to the south.

Popularly known as the Dhakuria Lake, the Rabindra Sarobar is a man- made lake and the second largest water body of Kolkata. It was baptised to its present name in 1958 after the renowned poet and Nobel Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore thus, paying tribute to him.
Things to do at Rabindra Sarobar, Kolkata
There are many activities organised for families during the weekends or holidays at Rabindra Sarobar that one can indulge in. People also meditate at the sunrise point and a few offer their morning prayers to the sun.
There are salsa classes organised here on weekends, there are also street bands that set up live musicals, yoga workshops are routine and the most amazing among all is the laughter club.
People are allowed to row in the lake waters and also engage in kayaking, water ballet and regatta, etc. The rowing clubs associated with the Rabindra Sarobar are Bengal Rowing Club, Calcutta Rowing Club and the Lake Club, who keep organising rowing events every now and then. There are swimming classes arranged here at the lake and one can enrol themselves in the club to be able to dip themselves in the refreshing waters of the lake.
When it comes to natural habitat, the gardens of Rabindra Sarobar becomes home to several migratory birds during the winters and it is a birder's paradise. For wildlife or bird photography enthusiasts, winter is the best time to be around to catch hold of birds like brown-breasted flycatcher, pin-tailed snipe, blue-throated blue catcher, brahminy starling, etc. in their lenses.
The 4-kilometre stone- paved jogging strip which encircles the park gardens of the Rabindra Sarobar Lake makes it an amazing destination for a waterfront run, be it short or long runs. There is a museum inside the premises of the lake which is called "Thakur-der-gallery" literally translating to "Gallery of the Gods" because, this museum houses some of the award winning Durga idols of Kolkata. This museum was initially an abandoned waterhouse.
How to reach Rabindra Sarobar, Kolkata
The connectivity to Rabindra Sarobar is very good from all parts of the city via cars, taxis, rickshaws and trains. The nearest Railway Station is Howrah Junction and one may hire a taxi or rent a cab from top car rental companies in Kolkata to reach the lake.
The nearest airport is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. One may reach Rabindra Sarobar via taxi or rent a cab from the airport.
The nearest Metro station to Rabindra Sarobar is the Rabindra Sarobar Metro Station. From the metro station, it is a 3 min walk to the lake.
