How can you celebrate a new joiner joining your organisation?

So you've hired a really great person, you're super excited about them joining your organisation, how do you make them feel special? Well, personalisation is the key. So you can go through the usual fluff of HR documents, even a really lovely culture book, and a really good welcome box. But fundamentally, you want people to understand and be excited about joining your organisation.
Now, you do that in a number of ways. And in hybrid, it can be a little bit more tricky. But some of the things that we've really seen work are a wonderful video by your CEO – send it to the person, get them to really talk down the camera, as I'm talking to you, about why they're excited about them joining that organisation. Now it could be the CEO, or it could be the head of the department that they're working for.
Also think about why they're coming and joining your organisation. Is it for family reasons? Can you do something for their family? One of the cool things that I did when I worked in Hamburg for an oil and gas company was think about somebody who was relocating. And I was thinking about how I could make that journey for them really individual. So they'd never worked in Hamburg before, so giving them a map of the city, for example, some of the cool tourist sites; giving them tickets because they were really interested in classical music, a metro card – something that really talked to them and celebrated the organisation, but the city that they were working in. So could you do that within your organisation?
So another area you might want to think about in your employee welcome pack is wellbeing. So could you think about a fitness app? If someone's a gym bunny and they want a gym membership, could you give them a gym membership? Could you think about calming teas, something that really helps them holistically think about how they can bring their whole self. So think about welcome packs in a much more individual sense.
Now you'll want to duplicate lots of elements so that you can make it really easy and it doesn't become a massive process, but you really want to celebrate that individual, but also alongside your organisation, get them to really connect the head and their heart.
