(14 Nov 2016) Delegates of the 21 member countries of the Asia-Pacific Economic Forum (APEC) met on Monday in Lima to kick off talks on how to bring their economies together with trade and investment.
Speaking to delegates, Mercedes Araoz, Second Vice President of Peru, said that given the "fragility of the global economy" and "tensions against globalisation", it was important to have trade liberalisation.
Attention has turned to a Free Trade Area of the Asia Pacific (FTAAP).
US President Barack Obama will visit the Peruvian capital from 18 to 20 November.
