(13 Nov 1979) A Polish engineer seeks political asylum at Istanbul international airport. The man ran away from LOT Polish Airlines at the Istanbul airport and took refuge in a United States plane nearby. He was later brought by the police into Istanbul military headquarters. Initially, as he ran from the Polish aircraft to the American plane, the Turkish police and US army officials believed the man to be an Iranian student attempting to bomb the US plane with explosives.
