The shocking facts about why 97% of Namibia is empty. Namibia, located in southern Africa, is known for its vast deserts, rugged landscapes, and wildlife. The country is about the same size as Egypt, and slightly larger than Tanzania and Kenya combined. But despite its size, Namibia is also one of the least densely populated countries in Africa, with only about 2.5 million people living in an area of 824,292 square kilometers.

This makes it one of the most sparsely populated countries in Africa. By comparison, Egypt has a population of over 100 million people living in an area of about 1 million square kilometers. This low population density is particularly apparent when viewing a global map of human population density, where a large, uninhabited area can be seen in the southwest corner of Africa. To put things in perspective, about 97% of the country is empty. This may come as a surprise, given the country's unique and diverse natural beauty, but this, is actually very true!
