The first plant in Italy for energy recovery (thermal valorization) of sewage sludge using grate technology is installed at the West waste water treatment plant in San Giuliano (Milan), which is managed by Gruppo CAP.
The plant was designed and built by VOMM Impianti e Processi S.p.A. as part of the research project called PerFORM WATER 2030.
This plant is the first plant in Italy for urban sewage sludge mono-incineration using flat moving grate technology.
The VOMM’s solution combines the drying technology already implemented at WWTP of national and foreign megacities: Milan, Rome, Naples, Paris, Beijing, etc.; and the thermal valorization system using grate, thus ensuring a complete autothermal process and reducing to zero the cost of fossil fuels.
Thanks to this the plant is especially flexible, which allows its use in even the smallest enterprises.
Lab tests with sampling of gaseous, liquid and solid effluents have been carried out by Politecnico di Milano and Gruppo CAP. Already during the first tests in July 2020, excellent performance was achieved.
