Violence is continuing at Bekkersdal, west of Johannesburg, after a shopowner was shot and wounded amid renewed protests this morning. His shop had come under attack from protesting residents when the shot was fired. Residents are still burning tyres, uprooting trees and blocking roads. Bekkersdal residents warned they would bring the area to a standstill yesterday, following a failed meeting with the Gauteng government over service delivery issues.
