On Tuesday, Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu reversed the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) trust board's controversial decision to completely close the temple for a week from August 9 evening to facilitate cleaning of the premises. He asked the trust to allow limited number of devotees during the period of 'Maha Samprokshanam' (cleansing ritual as per Hindu Agama Sastra). The ritual is performed once in every 12 years. The temple was never closed in the past for devotees. But, only a limited number of devotees used to be allowed to ensure that the rituals doesn’t face any interuptions.

However, this time the administration decided that the temple would remain completely shut from August 9 evening to 16 morning. This decision certainly became controversial with many objecting about it.
