Join me on this 3 day wild camping catch and cook adventure on the smallest Loch I've visited so far. Will the Vango Banshee fit in some of the tightest spots I've ever had to pitch it in?
The wildlife was spectacular with Red Kites that flew above us every day all day, a abundance of fish the lads were catching, great food and beautiful weather, what more could you ask for.
In this episode I head back up to Scotland for a epic three day catch and cook experience with two good mates Rick and Matt.
Getting there late afternoon wasn't a problem as the sun was still in the sky late into the evening, we had plenty of time to pack up the canoes and hit the water.
The wind was up which was hindering our fishing but soon settled down as we hugged the shoreline opening up good opportunities for both Rick and Matt to start catching. Pulling in some decent sized Pearch unfortunately I hit a big fat zero.
Heading for a small peninsula that strutted out into the Loch as our camping spot for the evening we quickly realised it was gonna be a tight spot for the three of us, lucky Matt had brought the Amok which left me and Rick a couple of spots to pitch.
I don't think I've ever pitched in a tighter spot! Nestled between pine trees, stumps and rocks I managed it. We set to work on preparing the fire ready for the evening meal which was kindly cooked for us by a good friend of mine Kanta. She had made us a full on chickpea curry which tasted amazing! After a good catch up we hit the sack.
Saturday morning started early, very early. The lads were on the water for just after six fishing and collecting a Crayfish trap Rick had set the night before.
The intrepid hunters returned to camp with a healthy catch. I got the fire prepped and we dispatched the Crayfish sharpish and got them in the pot. If you've never tried them before do yourself a favour and give them a go, you won't be disappointed.
After packing up we head off to explore the Loch and to see if we could head down a river system that lead to a larger Loch.
After realising nope that wasn't gonna happen we head back to our original spot. Nothing wrong with that as we had had a great evening the day before there.
Time to set up again but in a different area I'd spied as I unloaded the canoe. After that I headed out into the woodland across from camp to hopefully hunt down either a wood pigeon or a squirrel to add to our tea, did I catch?
The evening was very pleasant indeed and as we headed to our shelters for the night the faint sound of owls could be heard as I drifted to sleep.
The third day started chilly, you can really tell autumn is on the way. Cranking up the fire we cooked a hearty breakfast before the slog of packing up and making the long journey home once again.
I hope you enjoy this video, it was great to meet up with Matt again as it had been a while. Cya on the next one!
