Singapore has officially confirmed that its enhanced F-16 fighter aircraft are now equipped to launch the Python-5 air-to-air missile, one of the most advanced guided missiles in the world. An information panel displayed during the Republic of Singapore Air Force's 55th-anniversary open house event at Paya Lebar Air Base reveals that the recently enhanced Lockheed Martin F-16 C/D/D+ Fighting Falcons includes Python-5 missiles from Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems among the weaponry compatible with these aircraft. Singapore and Israel have maintained a strong defense alliance since Singapore gained independence from Malaysia in 1965, with Israel playing a pivotal role in assisting Singapore in establishing its military capabilities. Singapore is initially upgrading its fleet of 20 F-16D Block 52+ aircraft, with an additional 40 older Block 52 aircraft that were delivered from 1998 onward slated for upgrades in the future.
