Then put the hose on the OUT port of the Vac instead of the Vacuum port. So that you are blowing air instead of vacuuming air. You are ultimately going to blow air into your tailpipe to find your exhaust leak. If you have dual exhaust, plug the other pipe's tail with whatever method you want. Then turn on your ShopVac, and just spray some soapy water around the exhaust manifold (or wherever you think the leak is coming from) and you will then see bubbles from the exact leak.
I found my exhaust leak in a matter of minutes (seconds, really) using this method.
