Namaskar, friends! I am Dr. Jasmeet Singh Ahluwalia, an Advanced Bariatric Laparoscopic and Laser Surgeon. In this video, we will discuss what patients should include in their diet and what they should avoid.
While diet alone may not be the main cause of piles, there are still some general guidelines to follow. It's important to ensure a good fiber intake and consume an adequate amount of fluids to prevent constipation, which can lead to bleeding in piles.
Similar guidelines apply to fissure, fistula, and other conditions related to the anal region. To avoid constipation, it's recommended to include high-fiber foods in your diet. For instance, if you eat wheat flour roti, opt for slightly brown flour with higher fiber content. White flour, which is low in fiber, can cause constipation. Choose brown bread over white bread and consume fruits with their peels to increase fiber intake. Additionally, fiber supplements are available in the market. You can mix them with water and take them in the morning and evening to soften stools.
Remember to visit the toilet immediately when you feel the need to have a bowel movement. Delaying it even for a few seconds can lead to harder stools, which may result in bleeding or pain. Reduce the use of spices and chilies in your meals, as they can exacerbate symptoms for some individuals. If you notice that certain foods, particularly those containing spices or chilies, worsen your symptoms, avoid them. Food contamination can also aggravate symptoms, so try to consume home-cooked meals.
Apart from avoiding certain foods, it's essential to maintain hygiene and cleanliness in your diet. Avoid eating outside if you doubt the hygienic conditions. Unhygienic food can cause infections in the lower part of the large intestine, worsening symptoms. Refrain from consuming highly refined products, such as white bread or flour with low fiber content. Instead, opt for fruit with peels or choose fruit juices. These dietary adjustments can help prevent constipation.
After surgery, it's advisable to avoid consuming bread and opt for simple, easily digestible food. This will aid in maintaining soft stools. Remember to eat a balanced diet consisting of bread and vegetables to ensure proper bowel movement.
Lastly, ensure proper hygiene in the affected region to prevent infections. These guidelines are applicable not only to piles but also to other health conditions. By following these recommendations, you can improve your overall well-being.
Thank you.
