The Kimberley is known for being a vast and diverse part of Western Australia, but for Charlie Sharpe, resident of Lake Argyle, his home is right up there with the Amazon due to its unique pristine environment.
“Lake Arygle is one of those places that takes your breath away. Literally.” says Charlie. “As a human you just feel that you’re a grain of sand in this massive, wild landscape. I’ve travelled a bit, and there’s not many places like it. It’s very unique.”
Inspired by his father who worked on the Kununurra diversion dam, Charlie grew up on Lake Argyle and developed a passion for the natural diversity of the environment.
“Growing up on Lake Argyle was amazing. It had a huge impact on our respect for the landscape and understanding the wildlife and where it all fits in.” he explains. “Dad had this vision of what Lake Argyle could be, a true tourism icon.”
Charlie left the area after school to explore further afield and travel the world, but twenty years later he returned to realise his father’s dream.
Charlie has found that visitors are always astonished by what the location has to offer.
“An instagrammer doesn’t know where to look,” he says. “Every single day on Lake Argyle is different.”
