Madi and Sudjail aren't your average fishermen. On the island of Mayotte, they are revered as "Fundi Shark"—masters of shark fishing. While Madi sticks to traditional methods on a canoe, Sudjail uses a motorboat and heavy chains to capture massive sharks.
Mayotte, nestled between Madagascar and Africa, is home to one of the world's largest lagoons where fishermen reel in tiger sharks, hammerheads, and dagsits weighing hundreds of kilos. Shark fins are a delicacy in China, valued at $400 per kilogram, making this a high-stakes hunt for the prized ingredient in shark fin soup, a staple of traditional Chinese banquets.
