Several subscribers asked us to compare the Ruger PCC to the new S&W Response carbine. Both carbines shoot the ubiquitous 9mm round and utilize popular pistol magazines associated with the brand specific handguns of their respective manufacturer and a conversion kit to use Glock magazines.
Pistol Caliber Carbines (PCCs), allow the operator to use the same ammunition and magazines that are used in their semi-automatic pistol. Since the 9mm has minimal felt recoil, PCCs are enjoyable to shoot, especially for newer shooters. Economically the 9mm cartridge offers advantages over centerfire calibers which tend to be more expensive to shoot. Finally many three gun competitions allow users to compete with PCCs.
In our testing the S&W Response and the Ruger PCC both performed will. Providing a light weight, accuracy, and reliability. We got good gtoups at 25 and 50 yards, and we're able to consistently knockdown steel silhouettes at 100 yards.
The Ruger and the S&W and also fill a role in service as a personal protection, home defense tool.
Carbines like the two shown in this video, are easier to shoot the pistols because they offer multiple points of contacts. This facilitates the abiloity to enge targets at greater distances and a shorter learning curve for newer, less experienced shooters,
For people looking for a carbine that uses the same ammunition and magazines as their handgun, these two carbines are well worth consideration.
