What documents do I need to have when I cross the Canadian border?
You need to present the following essential documents when you cross the Canadian border:
● Canadian immigrant visa (if applicable) for each family member travelling together
● Confirmation of Permanent Residence for each family member travelling together
● Valid passport or other travel document for each family member travelling together
● Two copies of a detailed goods list that you plan to bring into Canada as settler’s effects,
showing the value, make, model and serial number of each item, divided into two
sections: current goods and goods to follow
● Two copies of a list of items arriving later and their monetary value.
● Disclosure of any funds over CAD$10,000 in your possession, regardless of the type: cash,
securities, stock, bonds, treasury bills, bankers’ drafts, cheques, money orders.
Keep these documents with you at all times so that you show them to the officer at the border
when needed. If you fail to comply with the funds disclosure requirement, your funds may be
seized and you may be fined.
