In this video we cover a popular and incredibly easy wiring mod to try out at home. We explore how to to a partial coil split.
In a typical coil split setup, it works by shunting half of the pickup (one coil) to ground, effectively turning it off and leaving one coil active.
Sometimes, depending on the pickup, this can lead to a weeny sound or a very noticeable loss in volume.
To fix this, you can use a resistor to send the signal to ground, resulting in only some of the signal being grounded (leaving the coil partially active).
It does require playing around with resistor values however - use a low value resistor (typically 1.1k - 4.7k) and see what works for you.
