Polygamy is the natural order of the African family structure. In fact, polygyny is an African phenomenon. In almost all African societies, polygamy is an acceptable and valid form of marriage.
After western colonisation, monogamy became the norm and polygyny became taboo and stigmatised. Africans became indoctrinated to follow the white man in all his ways. Having released previous videos on polygyny in science and religion, culture is the last, but not least tenet of polygyny.
I Segun Starchild take a deep dive into the history of polygyny in Africa and question why Africans continue to reject our indigenous marriage construct of polygyny, when it is obvious that monogamy clearly isn’t working for us.
