Cregan Stark is an important character in the Dance of Dragons, fiercely supporting Rhaenyra’s cause and becoming one of her most pivotal allies in the war for the Iron Throne, but he is actually even more important for the role that he plays after the war is done. As Hand of the King and regent to the young Aegon, he manages to bring swift justice to the poisoners of Aegon II and he secures the ascension of Aegon III in the process. He is strong, loyal and just in doing all of this, and his manner makes it no wonder that so many of his contemporaries referred to him as the ‘Wolf of the North’ during his life - a fitting nickname for a man like this. But who exactly was this man? How did he become the ‘Wolf of the North’ and how did he help Rhaenyra (and later on her son, Aegon) to try and take the throne?
