Scientists have been using this technique for years for sending space probes or spacecraft to deep space for exploration. 'Gravity assist' or 'gravitational slingshot' is the name that you might have heard in the movie 'The Martian'. This method can really save a lot of spacecraft's fuel and give it the desired speed and direction. At present also many space probes are using this method to reach their destination.
