Editor's note: Over the last 12 months, a sea of green has swept through the world's watch dials like a tsunami of pea-soup. So Andrew threw down the gauntlet and challenged Luke to pick his favourites. Spoiler alert: there's no Nautilus in the mix, but there's still plenty to make you go a certain colour with envy. Here are the best green dial watches of the last 12 months.
1. IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41
Received by a collective sigh of relief from smaller-wrist watch enthusiasts, IWC have taken their Pilot’s Watch Chronograph down to a proportionate 41mm. In addition to that wonderful fact, it’s available in two shades of pine green or slate blue, each offset by the red-filled running seconds hand at 6 o’clock. With 100m of water resistance and a screw-down crown, the versatility of the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph has increased exponentially.
2. Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso has always been the watch when thinking about 1930s fashion. Wristwatches were still a fairly new trend, but JLC were already creating a lasting impact with impeccable style and attention to detail. These three Tribute watches harken back to some of those early designs, leaning even more into the art-deco before livening it up with rich colour — released in a deep, shimmering sapphire blue, sumptuous oxblood red, and a deep watermelon green.
3. Cartier Tank Must Collection
The ethos behind the vintage Must de Cartier watches was bringing Cartier’s love of design and artful watches to a more accessible level, and that’s exactly what the new range does too. Three variants with the same shape as the Tank Louis Cartier range play host to shades of heartwarming depth, with an abyssal blue, Bordeaux red, and a cool forest green. Quartz movements keep the price attainable, but without any indices for the hours or minutes, mechanical isn’t necessary.
4. TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Green Titanium
This new reference of the stalwart Aquaracer takes the watch to a whole other level as a masterclass of texture. The grained green dial is complimented beautifully by the sunburst-brushed bezel, the slightly drab tone of which is brought out by the hardy titanium case which has been sandblasted to stippled perfection. Its utility is is the only thing which can rival its looks, with 300m of water resistance and two contrasting shades of luminescent paint.
5. H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Centre Seconds
The Streamliner Centre Seconds from H. Moser & Cie. is an oddity, but admittedly an extremely attractive one. The 40mm brushed cushion case, snake-like integrated bracelet, and chequered-flag minute track give it an undeniable 1970s vibe, while the sci-fi green-apple sunburst dial is a vivid trip to modernity. Consider that the watch also has 120M of water resistance, and you could certainly wear this to the beach if you were brave enough.
