In 1971, coach Jim Ellis formed the Philadelphia Department of Recreation (PDR; or Pride, Determination, Resilience) Swim Team. His goal was to make competitive swimming an option for inner city youth and to improve pool access for all Black swimmers. His pioneering program still produces champions and inspired the 2007 film Pride. Meet the legendary coach and find out how he successfully navigated uncharted waters.
