Mayoral seats contended in several Washington County municipal elections - Several cities in the county won't have to hold primary in 2017
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah - + Video – There will be no need for a municipal primary elections in several cities in Washington County. In fact, Ivins City and Hurricane may not even have to hold a general election this year unless if there are write in candidates declared by the September 8 deadline. The candidates will automatically assume their new roles saving the cities thousands of dollars.
However, it was quite the opposite for St. George, Washington City, Virgin Town, Toquerville and Hildale, where candidates waited until the last few days and even hours to file for city council and mayoral seats. For those cities which will be required to hold primaries, the date is set for August 15, 2017.
At least four Mayoral races are being challenged countywide in November. Incumbent Mayors running for re-election in St. George, Hildale, Springdale and Washington City all have contenders.
Meanwhile, Washington City has agreed to be a test site for new voting machines in the voting process this municipal election.
