Two top models from Pickering and Shure from the early 70's. The two models were released at approximately the same time with similar prices. The main difference is in the upgrade strategy between the two companies. With the Pickering XV-15/1200E, only the stylus assembly was upgraded and the cartridge body remained unchanged from the original 1967 design. However, with Shure's V15 Type III, the improvements included both the internal cartridge design and the stylus assembly resulting in an entirely new cartridge with advanced innovations and technologies. Here is a comparison between the Pickering XV-15/1200E and the Shure V15 Type III.
