Most historians believe "Tybee" derives from the Native American Euchee Indian word for "salt" which was one of many natural resources found on Tybee.
The Surf Song B&B home was constructed circa 1898 and served as a home to several commander and chiefs of Fort Screven.
The Tybee Island Light Station, standing at 100 feet, is one of America's most intact light station having all of its historic support buildings on its three-acre site. Rebuilt several times, the current Lighthouse displays its 1916 day mark with 178 steps and a First Order Fresnel Lens.
