Coolant/antifreeze flush. The first step is to drain your coolant/antifreeze. How to drain your coolant DIY, whether you want to refill the system with new coolant or to replace the thermostat, or to replace your timing belt & water pump. All of the above, plus other maintenance, require the coolant to be drained. Keep your radiator, heater core, and engine clean. Flushing your coolant is good for the cooling system to prevent rust and to stop your car from overheating.
Step by step:
1) Locate the petcock valve underneath the radiator
2) Place a drain pan underneath the valve
3) Open the petcock by hand (or carefully with pliers)
[You don’t have to remove the petcock – just open it]
4) The coolant will drain out into the drain pan
5) Remove the radiator cap so it will flow faster
6) Close the petcock by hand when flow stops (DON’T use pliers to close it)
