First film of the year and on finding some red ochre on my walk yesterday I thought I’d have a go at turning it into some pigment and then into oil paint.
Using only basic ingredients that I had at home once I discovered that Flax seed oil is in fact linseed oil and the oil that is the basis of oil paints.
I used a stone as a muller which is basically a way of mixing the pigment with the oil.
The more oil you add the lighter the colour so you can create a tone that you like.
I really enjoyed making this although it did get everywhere!!
Will try making watercolour from the pigment next.
