On May 7, 2017, David Kinney, Cheri Kinney, and their daughter went to visit their good friend, Brad McGarry to surprise him with a weed whacker. When the family arrived at Brad's home, they noticed that the front door was open. David and his family made their way into the home. They called for Brad but didn't see him. Then, the Kinneys proceeded back to the main floor of the home where David told his wife and daughter to stay upstairs while he searched the basement for Brad. While in the basement, David discovered Brad, motionless, lying in a small pool of blood. David yelled for Cheri to dial 911. She immediately raced downstairs while she called the police
