(28 Sep 2014) Afghan security forces were on high alert in Kabul on Sunday, the eve of President-elect Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai's inauguration ceremony.
Extra police checkpoints were set up around the city and thousands of policemen were out patrolling and searching vehicles.
Ahmadzai will take over from the current Afghan President Hamid Karzai during an inauguration ceremony on Monday.
A large number of foreign dignitaries are expected to attend the event.
Ahmadzai and his rival for the presidency, Abdullah Abdullah, signed a power-sharing deal after Afghanistan's election commission named Ahmadzai the winner of the election.
Abdullah will fill the newly created position of Chief Executive, a post akin to Prime Minister.
