The D531, a balcony road road about 25 km long, leads in west-east direction from Pont en Royans to Villard-de-Lans through the Gorges de la Bourne. It passes through various villages such as Choranche, La Balme de Rencurel, Les Jarrands and others. About 8 km from Pont en Royan or 3.5 km behind Choranche, a driveway to the north leads to the Grotte de Choranche, which is worth seeing. The road is generally easy to drive on, but on certain days a little more traffic is not unusual. Obstructions must also be expected when larger vehicles move through the narrower parts of the gorge. The road is located in the department of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, on the border of the districts of Isère and Drôme and there in the mountain massif of Vercors.

This route belongs to the so-called "French Balcony Roads".
