The Nao Santa María is one of the most famous ships of the American story. La Santa María, alternatively La Gallega, was the largest of the three Spanish ships used by Christopher Columbus in his first voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492, the others being the Niña and the Pinta.
The Nao Victoria Foundation, with the support of the Province Council of Huelva and Cajasol Foundation, took on the challenge of building the replica of the Nao Santa María to celebrate the "525th anniversary of the meeting between two worlds"
