We're in Maya 2019 and Arnold 3.3.0.2. Soon we'll be in Maya 2020 and a new version of Arnold.
Arnold supports graphic cards rendering, which means a drastic increase of speed. In a typical scenario this comes down to a factor of 8. If you render a sequence of 4 seconds = 100 frames where each frame takes 40 seconds to render using the CPU and only 5 seconds using the GPU, you end up waiting for an hour – rather than for only 8 minutes!
However, still in Beta, Arnold GPU rendering has a few restrictions, one of the most prominent ones is that it does not render procedural textures such as checker boards. Towards the end of this video I show you a way to actually render such a texture with the GPU, but it's just a workaround, not a solution for all purposes.
When Arnold started to support GPU rendering in summer 2019 I did a test run with water, motion blur etc., which you find here: [ Ссылка ]
