The world famous Taipei 101 New Year’s Eve fireworks show is just around the corner and some new twists are planned this year. This year’s show will have 3D effects and more fireworks set off from the very top of the skyscraper than ever before. It’s Taiwan’s most highly anticipated fireworks show of the year. Resplendent fireworks surround Taipei 101 and swirl upwards to the sounds of a symphony orchestra, creating a truly festive atmosphere.This year’s show will last 218 seconds, as it did last year. But more fireworks will be set off from the top of the skyscraper’s spire than ever before and reach an unprecedented height of 600 meters off the ground.Michael LiuTaipei 101 SpokesmanThe spire’s design involves many colors. It was a big challenge because (a person) has to climb to the top of the spire to set up the fireworks. There’s a very high degree of difficulty.The cavalcade of colorful fireworks that will form a fan-shaped design was the creation of a French pyrotechnics team, working with Taipei 101 for the third time. If you want to design fireworks that move in arcs, it is very challenging. You have to use different methods to overcome the structure’s square shape if spectators are to see curvy fireworks. For this year’s show, Taipei 101 is working with the iSee Taiwan Foundation, and “iSee Taiwan” will be the theme. More than 80 percent of the geometric shapes featured have never been seen in previous years.
