Hello & Welcome to Harnetty Railways
Coming up in this video from the 2019 holiday series at our friends at The North Yorkshire Moors Railway we review my personal favourite engine in the NYMR fleet ex LMS Black 5 5428 Eric Treacy.
Named after the vicar of Edge Hill & Wakefield churches & 1 of the well known railway photographers from steam days.
We start this video at Whitby as we see the loco standing in the station ready for the off on the 12.45pm service to Pickering.
Before departure we have a close up look round the loco which was now entering his 1st full season in revenue earning service following completion of his mainline overhaul to Whitby standard back in the summer of 2018 in it's pre-nationalisation guise & LMS Number.
We also have cab access to the locomotive. Before departure to Pickering there was a chance for the crew to give Eric a quick once over as we see fireman Andrew Jeffery giving Eric a quick clean up including the nameplate.
During the time of my filming of 5428 Eric Treacy the loco had now covered the most mileage out of all the NYMR loco's in preservation beating a former stalwart Standard 4 tank 80135.
Soon it was time to go as we head out of the harbour resort of Whitby.
5428 Eric Treacy performed magnificently along the Esk Valley & up the 1 in 49 grade to Goathland & sure enough after a great run we soon arrive at Pickering which is were we end this part of the video from on board.
Our next sequences of shots of 5428 Eric Treacy is from the lineside.
Mostly up on the 1 in 49 grade between Grosmont & Goathland near the summit at Moorsgates.
We end with 5428 Eric Treacy passing Grosmont MPD with the last train of the day to Pickering after taking over from diesel haulage which brought the train in from Whitby & finishing off with the semaphore signal going down to mark the end of a great few days getting 5428 Eric Treacy.
Thanks for reading enjoy the video.
