This video was made for the SENIA International virtual conference back in December 2022. It was on the conference app for three months, and I thought I would take this chance to share it here now that that closed.
Here's a blog post that I wrote based on this video, if you like to read the content and get into it in more detail: [ Ссылка ]
Teaching your way around the world has a lot of perks, but one drawback is that a lot of schools and/or countries do things differently and it can take awhile to get used to at times. After starting my teaching career in the US, and teaching in 6 more countries, my schema of what a Learning Support case manager is has formed, and also been challenged on more than one occasion. This presentation is focused on what I have come to see as the role of the case manager, and how that transfers to advocating for the students on your caseload, after 18 years of working under structures such as IDEA in the United States, following policy manuals from various schools, all the way to using guidance from Next Frontier Inclusion to help build policy and best practice.

About Me:
My name is Beckett Haight...sometimes Mr. Beckett, sometimes Mr. Haight. I am a former student with special needs who went on to become a Special Educator. Started as a volunteer in a classroom for students with developmental disabilities while in high school, then a Teacher Assistant for four years while in college, and I have been a Special Education teacher for the past 18 years in California, the Dominican Republic, Kuwait, Ethiopia, Mexico, Bali, and The Netherlands.
I love all aspects of Special Education, but have a particular passion for behavior support and post-secondary transition. I have been in the education game for 22 years and doesn’t see anything changing for the next 22.
