Granada - On February 10 has been held the men and women's Snowboard Parallel Giant Slalom at 9.30 pm. In the first qualifying round, the Swiss Patrizia Kummer, Olympic gold in Sochi 2014, got the first position. As for the men´s category, the Austrian Alexander Payer won the gold in the first qualifying round.
At 1.30 pm, the final rounds in the men and women´s category were held. It was a very close and exciting competition, in which snow has been the main topic. The Italian Nadya Ochner, a very experienced athlete in international competitions, such as the Olympic Games and World Cups, and 13rd position at the FIS rank in different modalities qualified for semifinals. Her rival, the Swiss Kummer, also qualified. She is an Olympic game medalist as well, who has already competed in the other semifinal against the Russian Darya Groznova, opening her way to the final.
The great final was very close, above all, among the Italian and the Russian, because Ochner won the bronze medal despite the problems he had in the first round. The great final became problematic due to the snow. However Switzerland got the gold. Selina Joerg reached the second position, at only 19 hundredths of a second from the winner.
The men´s competition was good too. Runners played at a high level and the event was very close. The German Daniel Weis won in parallel giant after defeating the Korean Bo-Gun Choi, who is in the 8th position at the FIS international ranking, despite he was the favourite skier in the first qualifying round. The Korean was ranked behind the German.
All runners valued the good quality of the snow and the track, regardless of the slight lack of visibility and the snowfall. The winners of the medals were very happy with their races, above all, the Swiss gold medal winner, Patrizia Kummer, who stated: 'I´m completely crazy, as this is the first time I win at a Universiade´.
