Select the text or table you want to sort.
1. On the Layout tab, in the Data group, click Sort.
2. In the Sort Text dialog box, do the following:
Sort by: Select the field you want to sort by.
- Type: Select the type of data you are sorting. For example, if you are sorting text, you would select Text.
- Order: Select Ascending or Descending.
If you want to sort by more than one field, select the field you want to sort by in the Then by drop-down list.
- Header row: Select Keep header row if you want the header row to remain at the top of the sorted list.
3. Click OK.
Here are some additional things to keep in mind when sorting:
- You can sort by multiple fields. For example, you could sort by name in ascending order, then by city in descending order.
- You can sort tables and lists.
- You can sort text, numbers, and dates.
- You can sort text in different languages.
