Domaine de Courbissac 2015 ‘Les Traverses’, Minervois, France
So, I was out booze hunting and came across this wine. In a free-spirited sort of way, I thought, why not? This is wine from the Languedoc in Southern France and more precisely the appellation of Minervois. Most of the wines imported into Australia from this region are of the Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre blend. I can only assume this is due to our familiarity with the grape varietals and blends.
Upon further research, I found the Domaine de Courbissac vineyard is grown using biodynamic principles. The wine itself is fermented and aged in concrete and stainless tanks. A philosophy of minimal intervention appears to play out in the winery.
After a little time open I could smell scents of raspberry jube, dark cherry and smoke. Overall, the nose had interest and was appealing. Upon drinking there is initial fruit sweetness which condenses into a linear and precise palate. In all, there is not a great depth of mid or back palate weight.
Coming in at $30 - $35 I’d give this wine a charcuterie and friends out of 5
Peace and stay awesome,
