CDU chancellor candidate Armin Laschet is under fire. As German President Steinmeier gave a speech about areas destroyed by the flooding in western Germany, Laschet was caught laughing in the background. It is not clear what exactly he found so funny. The flooding in Germany has brought climate change to the forefront of the upcoming election. Laschet is premier of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which has been hit hard by the floods.
Earlier this week Laschet faced criticism for calling a journalist "young lady" as she asked critical questions about his climate record.
