The digital t's: Threads, twins, technology, and transformation

The creation of model based engineering many years ago enabled the creation of digital twins that represent future or current physical assets. This development has enabled the advanced manufacturing technologies such as robotics, AR/VR, non-contact metrology, IoT equipment connectivity, additive, etc. to become common place in our factories of the future. It has also shown us a vision of the future where major IT systems (PLM, MES, ERP) are integrated (Industry 4.0), and modeling and simulation are used for virtual prototyping and eventually replace most physical and lab testing for internal and customer product validation; thus reducing the cost and span for product development and creating the model-based enterprise.
