At Comme une Française, we focus only on the specifics of speaking, understanding, and being understood in everyday French, and we have unique ways to help you learn it properly and faster. Part of this means telling you what you can STOP learning to prioritize what’s really important if you want to make fast progress.
One way I do this is pointing out mistakes you might be making that aren’t so obvious to you as a non-native speaker. Take direct translations, for example. When congratulating someone in English, you might tell them: “well done.” Which, of course, is “bien fait” in French. But saying “bien fait” to someone might actually be a little… awkward.
In today’s lesson, I’ll explain why “bien fait” isn’t the proper expression to use when congratulating someone in Fernch. I’ll also tell you what you can use isntead, with plenty of opportunities to practice these replacement expressions.
