The Australian’s North Asia correspondent Will Glasgow says Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin are “very close” and see a “shared agenda” in pushing back against the United States’ international security system.
The two leaders will hold a private meeting in Uzbekistan following the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
Members of the Summit include India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
“For a lot of the members, their number one security concern is Vladimir Putin,” Mr Glasgow told Sky News host Chris Smith.
“I mean a lot of the people at this summit, they won’t say it publicly, because they’re scared of him, but they’re terrified of an invasion from Russia.”
