The population is becoming increasingly older, partly due to medical advances. This demographic change confronts public health with significant challenges. For example, as age increases the probability of survival decreases after surgery. This causes a dual problem, the rapidly aging population is more likely to need surgery due to chronic disease but is also simultaneously more susceptible to surgical stress. During the 19th International Fasting Congress, Michael Mac Arthur from ETH Zurich scientifically explained the geroscience hypothesis and how the mechanisms of surgical stress by dietary restrictions work.
The 19th International Fasting Congress took place in June 2022 in Überlingen and was organized together with the German Medical Association for Fasting and Nutrition (ÄGHE). Fasting researchers from all over the world met here and presented the latest study results on fasting.
