I was getting white/greyish smoke from my 320D 150bhp when stationary in traffic, there was no smoke on cold start and it would clear as soon as I started to drive, only happened when the car was idling.
I found out it was the oil breather on top of the engine (beside the air filter) I have the older type with small foam filter, once this was cleared out the smoke stopped. HTH
